Potty Training Progress

Andrew has made a ton more progress potty training in a short time.  The boys are finally over the flu, and Andrew was doing great at home, so it was time to take the next step and venture back out of the house.

I'm not going to lie I was a little scared :) At first we only did quick trips and he'd stay dry.  Public restrooms pose more of a challenge because they are generally loud, cold or hot, the potty is a different size and different color and his travel potty ring isn't as stable, and every public restroom is a little different.  On top of the fact that he has to remember to go and want to stop what he's doing to go!  That's a lot of challenges.  Especially for a kid who much prefers things to be the same every time!

To ease the transition I found a travel Lightning McQueen potty ring (he has one at home too).  That helped some but he was super nervous sitting on it at first.  Our first big trip was to the zoo on Monday.  He was scared and while successfully used his first public restroom, he had 2 accidents.  I felt like we spent almost our entire trip running to or in the restroom.  After each accident, he told me what happened.

Then Tuesday, we went to the splash park.  I put him on when we first got there for practice/comfort, and then again a little bit later, and he did well.  He stayed dry all day!

Today, we went to a long appointment at the hospital.  He told me twice he had to go and did, and barely nervous at all.   Again, he stayed dry all day.

He has been working So Hard to earn this Tow Truck.  (I got it at a garage sale!)  It has been sitting on the island since Sunday and driving him nutty.  But he did it, and he's so proud of himself.  He keeps saying, "You earned the tow truck!!!!"

More fun times are ahead - hopefully finding a way he won't have to take all of his clothes off in public restrooms (tedious especially with another kiddo, and we aren't wearing his orthotics right now because of this!) Also, he starts school in a week.  He has a new teacher and has a 20 min or so bus ride to & from school, so there may be some learning curve in regards to his new routine.

Overall, the little guy is doing awesome!

Sam's the same way, he has to Take ALL his clothes off. And insists on it, nearly doing the splits. But I figure, even on a skeevy bathroom floor, I'd rather be putting pants and shoes back on him than laying him down and doing a full on diaper change. Way to go Andrew on getting potty trained. The Children's Museum is a great one to visit (as a potty reward) because they have the extra awesome toddler sized (Sam size, we call them) potties. Sam didn't wet himself once when we went there, because he really wanted to go on the Sam size potty.
